BRP road closed
Six months after Hurricane Helene, the recovery is still underway. Many sections suffered major damage to the roadway. There were also significant limbs and trees down. Flooding from rushing water, debris, rockslides, and mudslides caused lots of damage. Many portions of the North Carolina side of the parkway are still closed due to Helene. But some sections are open. Now that spring has arrived, parkway officials are asking visitors going sightseeing in the now open sections to plan ahead. The park service warns visitors not to trespass on the closed roads. Do not go around barriers. The NPS App can be a great tool. The app can let you know what sections are open, which sites are open, and most importantly what sections remain closed.
